A visit to the USA, summer 2014
More annual lakeside fun in the Northwoods
Last days on the lake
You may not find this terribly rewarding unless you're included here, so this is a good time for casual and random browsers to turn back before they get too caught up in the sweep and majesty of the proceedings and can't let go.
Purple loosestrife patrol
Cousin Rob scrutinizes more of the vast lakeshore for the invasive purple loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria), 31 August 2014.
His trained eye even identifies purple loosestrife that's not purple yet.
We're being watched.
Circumhydrobiking another small island
Got one!
Another Lythrum salicaria becomes history.
Rob is relentless, and indefatigable.
The little devils need to be stuffed into a bag and carted out of here, or they'll come back to life and resume their inappropriate activities.
The biggest storm of a cold, wet summer
Mid-day 4 September, another nasty storm
Finally the storm has ended, not before knocking out the electricity throughout the region.
Time to begin the clean-up
Except that it might not really be over, who knows?
A walk around the point to see what's what
It's back!
Wausau, Wisconsin
Kristin in Wausau. We've been down once again to view the annual Birds in Art exhibition in the Yawkey Woodson Art Museum, and the next day the city of Wausau traditionally hosts an artisanal crafts market in the centre of town.
Lots of excellent stuff, not always in my price range. It's 6 September 2014.
Downtown Wausau firmly planted in place
Arts and crafts. I stopped into the main bookshop and couldn't find a thing I'd like to read; much better success in the used book shop along the street -- a mint copy of the magisterial Davies' History of Wales for a ridiculously low price. I avoided the Central Wisconsin Firearms store entirely.
"Get financial flexibility" (too late)
The "400 Block" park directly in the centre of the business district
Win a beautiful handmade kayak. As if!
Back up north: This place is a preview of heaven.
Valedictory hydrobiking for this year
A last few excursions on the hydrobike
Willow Point across from Cousin Rob's house
Fallen angel. Storm damage or just roving vandals?
Willow Point across the way
A worthy hydrobike
Back to the point for the last time this year, 11 September 2014.
Tomorrow we're off on a veritable American Road Trip.
